Little Moments

When I became a mom, everyone told me to enjoy every moment because they grow up way too quick. If you're a mom I am sure you have heard this saying before. It never quite rings true until you start to experience the "little moments" that you never thought would have such an impact on you.  What do I mean?

  • The first time your baby smiles at you.
  • The first time he (or she) says mama or daddy.
  • When they roll over.
  • When they sit up by themselves.
Those are all milestones we expect to get emotional about because they are expected behaviors. I am talking about the small things your child does that completely take you by surprise, the skills you see them practicing when you least expect it, the behaviors that start to show their unique personalities.

I'll admit I have cried over stuff I NEVER thought would get to me.  I cried when we took down my little boy's crib and put his Big Boy bed up. Then for almost a week when I would go into his room and see that big bed in my little boy's room I would cry some more. It just didn't look seem right that he was big enough he didn't need his crib anymore. I have cried just about every time he decided he no longer needs my help with something at which he once needed my assistance.

This afternoon, I laid him down for his nap. I went in to check on him like I always do and he was buttoning his pajama shirt all by himself!!!  I AM SO PROUD OF HIM!! At the same time I cried because it is just one more thing that shows how independent he is becoming. I mean he had skipped a button but nonetheless I was very impressed.

My little boy truly is growing up.

Am I the only mom who cries over these little moments?
